SMOG in conjunction with WXBC is proud to announce a very special lecture with composer/multi-instrumentalist Weasel Walter from XBXRX and The Flying Luttenbachers. Weasel Walter will be talking about the influence and history of the NYC No-Wave sound, complete with rare footage and audio from bands involved in the movement. To get a taste of what will be covered in the lecture check out his website @ http://nowave.pair.com/no_wave/nycnowave_index.html.
I got a chance to see WW at The Smell about a month ago with Mike Watt from The Minutemen. Show was epic to say the least. I usually associate Weasel with jazzy metallic xtra free improvisational type stuff, but this gig I caught him at was more along the lines of punk, late seventies style but with a lot of noise, dissonant chords and feedback. Three guitarists, drums (WW), bass (MW), and the ill sax player, wish I could give you the names of the rest of those that played that night. See www.myspace.com/weaselwalter for more information on his sound and tour dates.
